September 27 PerditionPerdition
My life of six weeks
Forever changed me
Everything I knew
Vanished into bloodied air
Everything I learned in life
I learned from my father
I learned how to drive
And I learned to use a gun
But I never took a shot
Because you are not like me
I taught you what you need to know
Even when you see me kill a man
Who was doing what like I
Used to do and in the end
I did what I had to spare you
Even laying there dying
To save your soul
And you avenged your wife
And your youngest son
You wanted me to give some way
To ease your pain
You were the son I wanted
That wanted to kill my son
I understand now
The family ties
In truth our family dies
But what you taught me
As I saw you die
That you took the shot
You didn't save me
Because you only showed me
What I needed to know
On the road to Perdition Paul NewmanHud. The Hustler Cool Hand Luke. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. The Sting.
We lost a good one. I never liked The Color of Money, because I think it was a token Oscar.
I just finished watching Road to Perdition, which I feel was the more deserving Oscar. It's how Dead Poet's Society is to me. One of those films where the true star drives the story offscreen.
The scene where Paul and Tom play the duet on the piano, and Daniel Craig's character watching the utter love between them sets up the final scene of Newman. That's when Tom Hanks guns him down. "I'm glad it's you." is Newman's last words.
Classic.
I'll miss him. September 21 Why Can't I Play With It?Why Can't I Play With It?
Why can't I play with my toy?
Why do you take it away from me?
Why can't I play with my toy?
Why can't I play with it!
(Janis)
Why can't I play with it!
(Janis)
I just want to play with my toy
You just took away my fun
Why can't I play with it?
(Janis)
Look at me
Pawwing at your feet
NowI'm playing with you!
Now I'm playing with you!
Janis! September 12 Not-So-Random Song Of The Dayf:9/12/08I think those who know me best that 9-11 is a personal date for me. It dosesn't help that my mom's birthday was 9-10. In truth, I needed some time.
So now, I am going to celebrate and mourn. You see, ten years ago, on my mum's birth, I was in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Seven years and a day ago, I showed my album of my pilgramage to July 17,2002.
Sixty-nine years ago on Spet. 10th, my mother was born.

September 08 The Knee Pop Heard Around The WorldTalk about how one hit could change the season of a team.
Seven minutes into the first quarter of the Chief-Patriots game, quarterback Tom Brady, the NFL's pretty boy, and New England's unqestionable leader was knocked out for the season (confirmed today) with an ACL tear. Considering I had a minor knee injury this winter, I feel fro Brady. For a football player, especially for one that was mobile (and I place this now in past tense) as Brady, he'll never be the same. Even though Dan Marino was never mobile, look what happened to his career. He still put up numbers, but he became limited.
One thing's for sure, this will definately show us just how much of a genius coach Belichick really is. Was it the coaching, or the player? Many suggest that pre-Brady, Belichick was close to getting fired, and his record in Cleveland was horrid.
The AFC benefits, because without New England in the dominent picture (after all, they could still posibbly contend), many teams might literally have a fighting chance.
San Diego will now have a chance to really go to the Super Bowl. The best player in the game LaDanian Tomilison might finally get a chance to dance in the Big One.
The AFC East, with the surging Bills and the New York Bretts (err, Jets) can possibly get to win the division, or go to the playoffs.
But, that's why they play the games. September 05 Somewhat Random Video Of The Day: 9-5-08"Ground Control, to Major Tom."
--Ziggy Stardust
About twenty minutes ago, I heard those lines in some commercial, and even though I never cared for David Bowie, he influenced a German named Peter Schilling to write a song called Major Tom. I decided to google the video for the song, as when I was growing up, the video for the song was pretty cool. I loved the music.
After listening to the song and seeing the video for the first time in a very long time, here are my observations:
1). It celebrates the Apollo project of the 60's and 70's. It shows the triumphs.
2). It's really about Apollo 13. Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, Jack Swigert, Ken Mattingly, and the countless men and women who help bring those men home after something that NASA unfortunally managed to dodge until 1987, and again in 2003 with the Challenger and Columbia disasters. But these men and women push on. I celebrate them.
September 02 Hummers+Weddings+Horses=FunWell, Sunday I returned home from the furthest edges of North Dakota. One of my nephews got married.
It took me abit to get myself to Fargo. I stayed with my sister-in-law, and the next morning, my sister and her fiancee came to Fargo to pick me up.
They own a Hummer. Yes, it's a gas hog. They don't care. But what I cared about (or at least I was amused by) was the fact that a Hummer going 85mph in the passing lane earned instant respect, even from truckers..
The wedding itself was gorgeous. The reception dinner was divine. I probably had the best beef in my entire life at that meal. I think my knees hate me for all of the dancing, heheh.
Considering that the bride came from a ranch, I managed to do some horeback riding. It's something I hadn't done since I was a kid, so just roaming around the corral was enough, really. I'd like to do some more of it.
:) September 01 Not-So Random Song Of The Day--9-1-08Marge,
In the arms of an angel,
Fly away from here
In the arms of an angel
You will find some comfort here.
Thus spoke of your mother, your husband, your children
And of your friends who believe in you.
That is the will of God.
