Star Spangled Banner

Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Pony Up

Well he walked into the saloon one night
Getting out of the drenching rain
Fixing for a drink to warm his soul
Searchin' for a young lass
About age nineteen

He ponied up to the bar, and asked for a drink
I nodded, and then the man spoke
About his daughter that he
Thought passed this way

"She's got long red hair, her face is a dream come true.
Pretty green eyes that'd knock you down if they could
Her voice sings like it belongs to the wind
And her spirit is free."

I looked at the man as I poured another drink
Looked him straight in the eye and said

"Sir, I reckon if I saw me a woman like that
I would tell you that I once met one
She worked here last fall
She said she had to move on
Said Dodge City was her home."

The man nodded, and threw back his shot
Placed the glass down with two bits and tipped his hat
As he walked out, he looked around
And saw a pretty face
He smiled at her, and she smiled back
As he walked out into the rain

I looked at Sarah
Her smile faded, and she became afraid

MJ 24/7

You know, I'm already getting sick an tired of this.

He's dead, world. Get over it. Let the clan have some damn peace. I somehow knew that Jesse Jackson (no relation) would get involved. If the doctor knows something, fine. It's called HIPPA, people! That means PRIVACY.

I'm both fascinated and disgusted at the same time. I'm curious, but there comes a time where there needs a break. I'm not the biggest Michael Jackson fan in the world, but I think that the dead need a little respect and quiet.

For God's sake, Farrah Fawcett died the same day. Does she get the same coverage? No.

In a way, I'm glad she hasn't, but at the same time, she is an icon as well.  Well, when I grew up, she was to me. Yes, I have a dirty mind going here, but that's kind of the point.

I know Michael had an impact, but we all influence the world in our own way.

I'm just sick of 24/7 MJ already.

Mare

Slow down
Another town
Another name
On the horizon
Just the same

Dirty old town
But a watering hole
Someplace to live
Somewhere to dig in
Somplace to hide

Serving wench and whore
Is what she was known for
And not the name she was
Really known for

Renegade
You can't hide forever
Such a cute name
Name of death

Cassandra was her name
Of the day
Or Sheila
Jennifer or
Rachael
The names overflow
To protect her mind

But to protect her mind
She pays a price
To protect her identity
She pays a price
Pays a price

Oh Mare Mare quite contrary
Know the price of your crimes
Not caught yet, but drawn out
Just another deadwood town

Threes

As they say, celebrity deaths come in threes.

Ed MacMahon, well, I can simply hope that when I die,I can watch all the episodes of The Tonight Show. Nuff said there.

Farrah Fawcett, well, like Dom DeLouise, my fondest memory of her is The Cannonball Run. My favorite scene with her is when Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr. stop the ambulance to distract Burt and Dom.

Dean: "Oh, I want to bless her!"

Was outright hilarious to me, because of the fact that, well, young boys like me at the time was on the verge of discoving the female form..well...I remember my bro having a pinup or two.

Lastly, The King of Pop.

Even though I wasn't into his music much, he helped define what we now know as music video, sensationalism. The video for "Thriller" is one of the most iconic and bold videos ever made. "Beat It" was another one that I always thought was a neat video. Besides, if Wierd Al Yankovic paradied you, to me, it means you're significant.

The wackiness of his personal life both captivated, and disgusted us all.

May you rest in peace.

Kudos

I want to bring forth something that was rather neat in the last week at work. for me.

Considering I am in a high pressure, constomer-driven society (for internal and external customers), I love it when I get praised for what I do.

I had done some work last week that seemed high-pressured, mostly because the person who I was coordinating with seems to hold me in high regard. To me, it means you need to balance everything. Since my overall job is to provide, I have to figure out how to make it all works.

And I must have done right., because I got some high praises. Some I told my boss about from the personal experience with the people involded.

Philly

She ran away...

I run away from what I know
To something that I don't know
I run into the wind
Forcing me to slow down

As I run away
I hear the footsteps
Hoofsteps following me

Ayeah Ho! Ayeah Ha!

She ran her horse to Laramie,
Someplace she'd never been
Hoping for Dodge City
Only place she'd fit in
Outlaw town

She rode her horse very hard
Speed is what she called him
And she ran as far as she could go

She stopped at a river to take her fill
She sat for a quiet moment and took her fill
Surely they're not after her for what she'd done
Killing men made her an outlaw gave her a name
She had to change her name

La la la de da da da la da de da

Tangled Up In Blue

Early one mornin' the sun was shinin',
I was layin' in bed
Wond'rin' if she'd changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like Mama's homemade dress
Papa's bankbook wasn't big enough.
And I was standin' on the side of the road
Rain fallin' on my shoes
Heading out for the East Coast
Lord knows I've paid some dues gettin' through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out West
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin' away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
"We'll meet again someday on the avenue,"
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to New Orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin' for a while on a fishin' boat
Right outside of Delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin' in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin' at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I's just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, "Don't I know your name?"
I muttered somethin' underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
"I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type."
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an Italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin' coal
Pourin' off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on Montague Street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin' on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now I'm goin' back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives.
Don't know how it all got started,
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives.
But me, I'm still on the road
Headin' for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

Lone Wolf And Renegade

Lone wolf
Hunts his prey
He fights the elements
Of this day
Brushes away the sand from his face
He thinks he sees his prey

His eyes shift to left and right
Trying to size everything in sight
To know what's wrong or right

Renegade
Run run run
Renegade
Run run run run run

Renegade finds a place
To hole up for the night
He knows that it's too late
For a peaceful escape

Eyes shift left and right
Sizing everything in sight
I know what's right

Wolf yells out
"Son you're done
Women's said ya took her wrong
Well I'm here to make it right.
Come down now without a fight
I swears to God to make it right."

Renegade shouts back
"I meant her no harm sir
I love her so
Why can't you understand
I'm just trying to be a man."

Wolf is silent and stands still until he hears
His Philly say
"Father don't you kill him cuz if you do
You'll kill me too."

Philly runs to where her beau is holed
She falls into his arms
He comforts her and yells out
"What'cha gonna do now?"

Wolf stands alone, and looks at his company
As Marshall he has to uphold the law
If he has to uphold the law
What price does he pay?

"Philly dear, that man is bad
He killed three men in Deadwood
How can you love a man like that?"

Philly grits her teeth and looks at Renegade
And then she smiles to herself
Knowing the truth
Renegade simply says
"Tell him the truth."

Philly comes to the window standing hard and firm
She sings her song

"Father, I'm the one who killed those men
They the ones who hurt me
If it was not for this man here with me
I'd never made it through
If you're going to kill this man
You might as well kill me too."

Wolf bows his head and then raises his head high
Looking to the heavens for an answer
He softly whispers to his men
"Stand down."

"Philly, dear come down, there will be no harm.
Your man can come down with you."
Renegade looks at Philly his eyes open wide with surprise
"It's ok," she said and pointed to her hip
There was her gun

Five men were standing all in a row
Wolf was the middle man
They walked together hand in hand
As they approached the posse one of the men fired a shot
Renegade dropped dead shot in his heart

Philly drew her pistol and fired her shots
She killed the deputies so fast
Wolf looked at her in amazement
And then fell down shot in his leg
And then she said

"Now I'm the Renegade.
If you want to hunt me down
Try to follow my path to hunt me down.
Wolf, you're my enemy so hunt me down."

As she turned away, Wolf simply said

"I will hunt you down, daughter as I love you so
If I have to follow you to the ends of the earth
I will do so."
Philly walked away from the death she just made
She started a path on walking to her grave
